Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Russian folklorist V. Propp collected Russian folktales which are the symbol of the people's collective mentality to investigate the common structure. This study combines the narrative analysis of Propp with narrative generation system by AI. In this paper, we especially introduce the common story grammar which is a core in the story generation system based on Propp theory we are developing. This story grammar has the form of hierarchical generative grammar to generate stories by top-down processing from the higher hierarchy to the lower one and bottom-up processing from the lower hierarchy to higher one. In this system we can set a variety of concrete knowledge in the lower hierarchy of the grammar. We aim to organically integrate the proposed system into the integrated narrative generation system we are developing.
