Abstract(in English) | The goal of Artificial Intelligence is to build an artifact which has intelligence like human or to get some knowledge about intelligence by using computers as research tools. The first grand challgenge in Artificial Intelligence was chess. Computer chess research started from 1950 and in 1997 computer chess "Deep Blue" won against human world champion "Kasparov". Basic Artificial Intelligence techniques about search, parallelism and so on were developed with computer chess research. The next grand challenges in games are Shogi and Go. Computer Shogi won against a woman professional player and it will win against the world champion very soon. Computer Go was very very weak for a while because rules of Go are completely different from those of chess and Shogi. But Monte-Carlo methods could make computer Go stronger recently. RoboCup was proposed as the next grand challenge next to chess. The goal of RoboCup is to make humanoid soccer team that can win against the World Cup champion team by 2050. In 2011 computer "Watson" won against human champions in a well-known TV quiz program in U.S. An artificial brain project whose goal was to make a computer that can pass the entrance examination of Tokyo University by 2021 started in 2011. We present outlines of Artificial Intelligence grand challenges and discuss their significance. |
