Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The retardation condition for high diffraction efficiency is investigated using Jones calculus in a liquid crystal grating with a twist angle ranging from -π to +π. It is revealed that a theoretically 100% diffraction efficiency can be achieved when R=(n+1/2)λ, where n is an integer and λ is the wavelength of light. Diffraction properties of a liquid crystal grating fabricated using microrubbing is estimated. Strong diffraction for m=+1 or -1 (m: diffraction order) is demonstrated depending on the sense of the incident circularly-polarized light, meaning that the liquid crystal grating functions as a blazed grating.
