Efficient Free Viewpoint Video Transmission Technology by Integrating Multiview Depth Map

Abstract(in English) This paper describes the transmission technology for multiview video and depth map that are compressed by conventional video coding scheme in order to achieve efficient transmission of free viewpoint video. As the problem of former scheme, the generated free viewpoint picture quality might be degraded especially for occluded regions because only the depth map corresponding to single view was transmitted. To overcome the problem, we propose to configure a single depth map by incorporating multiview depth maps so that any occluded region could not be occurred. The proposed method is quite practical to realize free viewpoint transmission, because any special video coding scheme is not required for encoding depth map.
