Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigated the optical properties of guanine crystal in goldfish and neon-tetra, both under static magnetic fields of up to 10 Tesla and under 0.5 Tesla permanent magnet. A fiber optic system and a CCD microscope were set in the provided magnetic fields, and the image of guanine crystals reflecting was obtained in a time course. The guanine crystal showed a quenching of light scattering under magnetic fields of up to 5 Tesla, and its threshold was determined at 0.2-0.3 Tesla. The guanine crystals which were embedded in red chromatophore of goldfish, showed a structural color changing under magnetic fields at 10 Tesla. Also the behaviors of guanine crystals orienting to magnetic fields were analyzed.
