Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In conventional doubly-insulated inorganic thin film electroluminescent (EL) devices, the outcoupling efficiency is very low as less than 10 % owing to the optical confinement effect. In this study, the improvement of the efficiency has been attempted by employing the periodic-convex-structured (PCS) substrates. It has been found that the EL device prepared on the PCS substrate shows a spectrum having multi sharp peaks. These peaks are caused by the diffraction owing to the fine structures formed on each convex. The diffraction effect is expected to improve the outcoupling efficiency.
