Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) systems, if an Optical Network Unit (ONU) fails to operate properly and transmits optical noise over its granted time slot, it would prevent an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) from receiving upstream signals from the other ONUs. On the other hand, optical multiple reflections, which results from multiple reflection points in an optical distribution network (ODN), may also have an adverse influence on other ONUs. Under these faulty conditions, it is difficult to identify failures from central offices. In order to solve this problem, we have proposed a diagnosis technique utilizing Multi-Point Control Protocol (MPCP) messages standardized by IEEE. In this paper, we report experimental validation of an ONU tester prototype employing our proposed method.
