A Study on Self-Sustained Fast-Lock CDR for 10G-EPON Power Saving ONU

Abstract(in English) We present a novel power saving Optical Network Unit (ONU) employing a self-sustained fast-lock Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) circuit 1C for 10 Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (10G-EPON). With its self-generated quasi synchronized signal based bursty CDR loop control, a fast wake-up time of the ONU within 497 ns supporting burst-mode turn-on time of the ONU transmitter and heavy duty Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) cycles is fully achieved. Our power saving ONU with the fast-lock CDR 1C is also success in realizing a high power consumption reduction efficiency of 63.8 %, compared to the typical Doze-mode power saving ONU.
