Abstract(in English) With the explosive growth of data traffic in communication networks due to the Internet and its related services, the excessive increase in power consumption of large capacity routers has become a major concern. Optical packet-switching networks (OPS-NW) relying on optical packet routers are considered to be a potential solution that maximizes the flexibility and throughput of the network owing to the packet-level granularity which they can support. We have recently constructed an 8x8 hybrid optoelectronic router (HOPR) prototype that combines the strength points of optical and electrical technologies. Error-free routing for 10 Gbps asynchronous arbitrary-length optical packets together with high-level functions such as QoS and multicasting have been demonstrated while achieving low power consumption and low latency. In this presentation, we will describe the key optical/optoelectronic devices and sub-system technologies utilized in HOPR. Multi-hop operation demonstrated by means of a TTL-based selective error correction using the HOPR will be explained. Furthermore, we will present the interconnection of two OPS-NW's; the packet optical add/drop multiplexer (POADM) ring developed by Alcatel-lucent and the HOPR-based overlaying mesh NW.
