Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Needle-like focused laser beams, which have small focal spot size and long depth of focus, could lead high-density optical memory, super-resolution microscopy, high-precision lithography with high-tolerance. We had demonstrated that the radially polarized beam which is emitted by a photonic-crystal laser can create a tight focal spot with long depth of focus by controlling the beam patterns from conventional doughnut shape beam to narrow-width ring (or halo) shape. In this report, we develop novel photonic-crystal lasers which can directly emit a radially-polarized halo shape beam and we successfully demonstrate that the output beam has a focusing property with long depth of focus under the high numerical aperture condition.
