Abstract(in English) Gridless (Flexible grid) network concept has been proposed to improve a frequency usage efficiency for next generation optical networks. The gridless networks allow us to deal with the mix of various traffics with arbitrarily variable symbol rates, which are not only 10Gbps (40Gbps) legacy channels but also core traffic channels over 100Gbps. In such networks, bandwidth and frequency variable wavelength selective switches (WSSs) play an important role. In this paper, we report the prototype performance of 1x4 gridless wavelength selective switches utilizing a LCOS device as diffraction optical element (DOE).
