Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Image noise called speckle noise occurs frequently in laser displays when a laser beam is projected onto a screen for drawing images, owing to high coherence of the laser beam. It is effective to widen spectrum width of the laser beam for reducing the speckle noise. In this report, we propose a guided-wave electrooptic modulator with polarization reversal structure to widen spectrum width of the laser beam. This modulator utilizes long resonant electrodes of coupled microstrip lines, and polarization reversal structure for compensating for the degradation of modulation efficiency so that it can obtain high modulation index. The operation principle, design, fabrication, and experiment are reported.
