A Study on Measurement Method for Wave Absorber Constructed on Ceiling of the ETC Gate

Abstract(in English) This paper presents a measurement method using a metal plate lens antenna for evaluating a wave absorber constructed on ceiling of the ETC gate. First, a focal distance of the lens was derived to be 129 cm by using geometrical optics. By arranging the lens in front of a horn antenna, the gain and half power beam width were improved from 18 dBi to 26 dBi and from 22 degrees to 7 degrees, respectively. Then the antenna characteristics were evaluated by taking the lens away from the focal point in order to miniaturize the lens antenna. As the results, the change in half power beam width was small when the lens came close to the horn antenna. The absorption characteristics of the absorber were measured using a high gain horn, and there were ±1.7 dB differences in the results. It was shown that the proposed method was suitable for measuring the absorption characteristics of the absorber in the ETC system.
