Abstract(in English) New high-speed guided-wave electro-optic modulators using an array of gap-embedded patch antennas with phase reversal are proposed for wireless-over-fiber systems. A wireless microwave signal can be received by the patch antennas and converted directly to a lightwave signal through optical modulation by utilizing strong electric fields across the gap. By introducing phase reversal in the patch antenna array, a large modulation index can be obtained. The measured modulation index of the fabricated device was enhanced about 3.2 times compared to our previous device. The advanced EO modulators using an array of patch antennas with a coupled of gaps and phase reversal are also discussed.
