Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The amount of internet traffic is increasing every year, and expectation for 10G-EPON which can realize broad bandwidth is growing. In order to enable smooth migration from GE-PON system, the two important requirements for 10G-EPON system are to support 29dB loss budget of existing optical distribution network and co-existing with GE-PON ONU. Moreover, reducing capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) are also becoming important requirements for deployment of 10G-EPON systems. Optical transceiver is a key component for realizing these requirements. Recently, optical transceivers are becoming smaller and lower power, and almost commercially available. This paper describes latest status and performance of the optical transceiver for 10G-EPON systems.
