Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper we discuss the design of clustering algorithm for sensor nodes in flowing sensor networks for observing raceways, sewer conduits, and rivers. Such flowing sensor networks have some access points (APs). If the APs do not cover the whole observation area of the flowing network, the flowing sensors have intermittent connectivity to the APs. To prevent every sensor nodes from wasting energy by keeping their wireless communication function enabled for finding the connectivity with APs at unpredictable locations, we assume a portion of the nodes work as cluster headers (CHs) and collect sensor data from neighboring nodes then forward them to APs if they obtain the connectivities to the APs. Due to the mobility of flowing sensor nodes and the possibility of crashes of nodes, clustering algorithm designed for static sensor networks such as LEACH and HEED may not work appropriately in flowing sensor network. We evaluate the performance of such networks with LEACH and HEED by simulation and discuss the suitable design of clustering algorithm.
