Routing Protocol for Deadline-Aware Data Aggregation Method in Energy-Efficient Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we focus on monitoring environments with wireless sensor networks wherein mobile sink nodes exist to traverse a sensing field in a spatial-temporal specific manner and aggregate some types of environment data with different deadline constraints. For such environments, we propose an energy-efficient data aggregation method which reduces intermediate transmissions in multi-hop communications while guaranteeing the deadlines. The basic approach of the proposed method is to temporarily gather (or buffer) the observed data into several sensor nodes existing around the moving path of the mobile sink that would meet their deadline at the next visit and then, to transfer the buffered data to the mobile sink node when it visits the sensor nodes. In addition, we also propose a mobilesink-initiated proactive routing protocol (MIPR-LC) which efficiently constructs routes to buffering nodes on each sensor node. Moreover, we evaluate the proposed aggregation method and routing protocol by simulation to show their effectiveness. As a result, we confirm that the MIPR-LC method can reduce less than 23 % in energy consumption as compared with a simple routing protocol and also the mobile sink nodes can gather almost all the observation data within the deadline.
