Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical connectors are required for the implementation of high-density multifiber connection. An SF connector has been developed to meet this requirement. In the SF connector, fibers are aligned in microholes without ferrules, and physical contact connection is achieved by the pressure that is generated by the elasticity of the fibers. It is important for the SF connector to fabricate a microhole component with an accurate hole diameter in order to achieve the low connection loss. We designed and fabricated the microhole component utilizing V-grooves that enables us to set the hole diameter accurately and achieve the mass-production. We confirmed that the 16-fiber SF connector performs well by employing the V-groove type microhole component.
