Carrier Transport in Conducting Polymer PEDOT:PSS investigated by Terahertz and Infrared-Ultraviolet Spectroscopy

Abstract(in English) We are developing the nondestructive evaluation method of carrier transport in conducting polymer thin films. In this study, effect of the solvent such as ethylene glycol (EG) on the carrier transport in conducting polymer poly (3, 4 ethylenedioxythiophene):poly (4-stylene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been investigated by the combination of the terahertz (THz) time domain spectroscopy and broadband reflectance spectroscopy from infrared to ultraviolet region. THz conductivity increases with increasing the frequency, which indicates that the weakly localized carrier states in PEDOT:PSS. The broadband reflectance of PEDOT:PSS shows the plasma resonance due to the free carriers in PEDOT:PSS. From the study of the X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, the EG addition improves the crystallinity of PEDOT:PSS and induces the removal of the insulating PSS. The simultaneous fitting of the THz optical conductivity and broadband reflectance using the localization modified Drude model indicates that the mechanism of the dc conductivity enhancement by the addition of EG is dominated by the improvement of the carrier mobility due to the change of the film structure.
