Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The response time to detective visual target is shorter than only visual target is presented when auditory cue (auditory stimulus) is presented simultaneously or previously with visual stimulus. On the other hands, visual cueing contributes to faster detecting visual target. In the present study, we examined the different properties of facilitation effect between auditory and visual cues. For the purpose of the present study, we conducted the task to response the position of visual target (Experiment 1), and the task to response the orientation of visual target arrow in rapid visual presentation stream (Experiment 2). The results indicated that the facilitation effect of auditory cue in foveal visual field and the effect of visual cue in both foveal and peripheral visual field were observed in Experiment 1. In Experiment 2, the facilitation effects both of visual and auditory cues were observed in peripheral visual field. Therefore, these results suggest that the facilitation effects of auditory cues do not depend on the task, on the other hand, the effects of visual cues do not depend on the visual field to detect the position of visual target.
