Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, Ka-band broadband communication services have been planned by several satellite business operators with over the 100-Gbps class capacity. Satellite laser communication technologies have achieved the high speed data link of 5.5 Gbps/channel. In this paper, the research and development of space communications technology in the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) are introduced. The third mid-term research plan for the research and development in the NICT started in April 2011 and will last for five years. The organizational structure has been newly re-organized and the former Space Communications Group is now called the Space Communication Systems Laboratory. The research and development in the Space Communication Systems Laboratory will be presented.
