Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Aiming at "Super Hi-Vision (SHV)" broadcasting via Ka-band satellites, NHK has developed an LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) coded QPSK/8PSK wide-band modem in which a variable length PRBS (Phase Reference Burst Signal) is implemented. The PRBS is known as an effective technique to strengthen phase synchronization performance under low C/N (carrier to noise ratio) conditions. The main purpose of the transmission test using the modem is to confirm the optimum symbol length of the PRBS under wideband transmission. Focusing on the length of PRBS and code rate of LDPC code, we investigated phase synchronization and BER vs. C/N performance. Performance comparison between IF and satellite loopback using the "KIZUNA (WINDS)" satellite is also described in this paper.
