Abstract(in English) A micro-strip coupled lines coupler (MSCL) will suffer that the desired coupling may not be obtained because the gap between coupled lines cannot be narrowed beyond machining limitations and the directivity may degrade due to a phase difference between the even and odd modes. We propose a MSCL coupler with narrowing the line width of a part of a quarter guide wavelength MSCL and slitting the other part to obtain tight coupling and high directivity simultaneously. And a broadband multi-element coupler using the proposed MSCL as the tightest coupling element is discussed in this paper. A characteristic impedance of the tightest coupling element of the multi-element coupler is designed higher than others to obtain the desired coupling. The multi-element coupler using the proposed MSCL fabricated has excellent performance over 162 % of the bandwidth, it is verified that the proposed MSCL is efficient.
