A Study on External Factors and Method for Estimating Network Traffic

Abstract(in English) Network traffic volumes continue to increase rapidly with spread of the broadband access and the increase internet backbone capacities. Moreover, the services provided over the Internet become more diverse. In order to prevent network traffic congestion, it is necessary to estimate network traffic volumes, and network administrators should prevent a deterioration in the quality of each service to support quality of each service by estimating and regulating traffic in advance. Therefore, we study a method to estimate network traffic volumes with external factors, for example, calender, weather data, and so on. In this paper, we show the influence of external factors in traffic estimation, and the result of traffic estimation by using multiple regression analysis with external factors for Internet access-log data.
