Reporting activity in English using books for Extensive Reading

Abstract(in English) To be international scientific researchers, the skills to read the literature of the fields, to summarize it orally and express his/her opinion with a sound reasoning is required. Japanese students in undergraduate school and graduate school, who are expected to be researchers, are not good at these activities even with their mother tongue. It will be worse with English. Though it is desired to use English literature of their fields to practice these skills, it will be too hard for students and it is difficult to grasp their understanding. Thus, we use books for extensive reading. We have conducted this practice successfully and students enjoyed it though it is the first experience for them. Qualitative analysis on speaking ability and improvement of the procedure of the activity is to be examined in the future.
