Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This invited talk introduces topics of earthquakes and faults for a la carte, as going northeastward along Route 9 from Yuda-Onsen, Yamaguchi City, by relating a seismically-active period to the Great West Japan Earthquake. The worst marine earthquake along the Nankai trough may be beyond our imaginings by rupturing the wide area from off-Tokai to Hyuga-nada. An ancient Nankai earthquake was generated in 887, 18 years after a huge earthquake hit Tohoku District in 869. It pasts 55 years up to now after the occurrence of the Showa-Tonankai and -Nankai.earthquakes. A few decades remain until the next marine earthquake will hit West Japan. We must prepare for the great earthquake by understanding the causal relationship between earthquakes and faults sufficiently.
