160 Gb/s error-free transmission over 5000 km using all optical 3R regenerator

Abstract(in English) Transoceanic transmission at 160 Gb/s was successfully demonstrated by introducing an all optical re-timing, re-shaping, re-amplifier (3R) signal regenerator using a self-phase-modulation (SPM) based regenerative dual-stage wavelength convertor and a nonlinear-loop-mirror (NOLM) based optical logic gate. At the optical 3R repeater spacing of 240 km, 160-Gb/s error-free transmission over 5,040 km was achieved. The power penalty at 5,040 km was about 1 dB, and clear eye-opening was observed even after 10,080 km transmission.
