Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The principal objective of our research was to investigate the interaction between facial identity and facial expression recognition. In connection to this, we aimed to examine whether the facial distinctiveness is affected by facial expression. To examine this issue, we attempted to rate facial distinctiveness of the same identities with several emotional expressions. Our result showed that there were several correlations of varying sizes between mean distinctiveness ratings for neutral expression and several other facial expressions. Thus from our current findings it is inconclusive whether or not the two processes are independent. We will discuss our results with respect to the interaction.
