Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present study investigates the relationship between social skills and morphology of facial expressions by using a 3D camera system and a geometric morphometric method. Japanese undergraduates (n=62) provided facial expressions such as neutral, happy and anger, and completed the Affective Communication Test (ACT; Friedman et al., 1980), which is a 13-item self-report measure of nonverbal expressiveness. Thirty six facial landmark coordinates were measured on each of the facial shapes, and standardized using the geometric morphometric method. PCA was performed on the standardized facial coordinates. The ACT scores were found to be correlated with differences between neutral and happy face, and between neutral and anger face in several principal components. These results indicate that social skills affect morphology of facial expressions.
