AR Input Interface for Hand-Drawing Using 2D Markers and 6-Axes Sensor

Abstract(in English) For hand-drawing a sketch or figures using augment reality which can overwrite virtual images on real-world images, we need an effective input interface which can be intuitively operated by user's gestures. In this study, for the purpose of hand-drawing of virtual figures, we developed a system which hand-draws arbitrary figures by gestures of a pen-shaped input interface. This system consists of a HMD with camera and the pen-shaped input interface with 2D markers and 6-axes sensor. This input interface gets the coordinate of pen nib from the pen marker and object markers. The 6-axes sensor gets values of pen's acceleration and angular velocity. The coordinate of pen nib and the variances of 6-axes sensor's data are used for the collision detection of pen nib on the object. To evaluate the effectiveness of the hand-drawing interface, we experimented on the shape-matching between figures drawn by computer and hand-drawn by this interface. The results show that this interface is effective for the hand-drawing of figures on the plane.
