Password Enhancement in Keystroke Dynamics with a Hamming Distance-like Filtering

Abstract(in English) Keystroke dynamics-based user authentication research has been done for decades and been positioned as one of inexpensive yet valid biometrics. In order to generate templates to be refereed, subjects are required to input prescribed strings. From such obtained input data, two consecutive keystrokes, termed digraph, are extracted and utilized. For two sample data to be compared, the dissimilarity measurement is calculated based on the elapsed times of digraphs and so on. By the relation of its measurement and a threshold, those two samples are validated to be the same. Our previous experiments have shown that Hamming distance-like filtering lowers EER (Equal Error Rate), valid dissimilarity measures keep lower EER although we decrease the number of digraphs to be utilized, and so on. In this report, we adopt those results to password enhancement. This time we have collected keystroke data from 35 subjects typing only 11 strings of alphabets totally four times. The authentication experiments have shown that error rate around 20% EER are reduced to around 11% by our proposal filtering. Since our proposal filtering is easy to implement, it expects to apply the previous study of password enhancement.
