Life support for elderly using a communication partner robot : Speech technology, useful or not for assistive technologies?

Abstract(in English) In this speech, application of speech technology to assistive technologies is described. There are two development examples shown in it. One is about powered wheelchair for persons with cerebral palsy using speech recognition technology. Another is about communication robot for persons with dementia using synthesize technology. Speech technology is expected to be useful for persons with disability and elderly. It also involves discussions about practical use of these technologies.
