Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In speech learning of deaf children or speech rehabilitation of patients with dysarthria, an effective visual feedback of spontaneous speech is desired. Particularly, vowel formant frequencies are often used as an acoustical feature. However, since those absolute values reflect on the individual differences in vocal tract length, the relative changes of formants should be observed to know vowel phonemes. In previous study, we proposed a colored vowel visualization defined by the circular ratios of formant frequencies to normalize the vocal tract lengths, and then developed a speech visualization system. In this paper, in addition to the feature of vowel normalization in the color space, we propose a normalized articulation space representing the relative positions of jaw or tongue and then describe an application to the vowel synthesis for auditory feedback. Moreover, we introduce a real-time learning tool for vowel utterance based on the normalized articulation space.
