Abstract(in English) In the 1990's, the position of the research on the quality of communication service was changing in a rapid change in the communication environment to coming multimedia era. As the multimedia era drew nearer, importance to its quality evaluation from user's aspect had increased. In the first half of this lecture, the meaning of this actualized change in the research on the quality of service is discussed, and a part of the research which the author handled considering user's behavior at that time. The social necessity of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for engineers has arisen and it's supporting environment is being expected to be enhanced as a social mechanism. IEICE started up the CPD sectional meeting in 2002 (Dr. Mochida, chairman), and has been discussing about supports to the ability development and the continuing education for engineers in cooperation with IEEJ and IPSJ. In the latter half of this lecture, current state and the supporting system of the CPD in IEICE are explained. Especially, it describes the CPD program for the student executed at the university the author belongs. For growing into a tough engineer, it is hoped to acquire the lifestyle that develops own ability independently and continuously in the student age.
