Abstract(in English) To preserve and restore the Tomioka Silk Mill's west cocoon warehouse which is a National Important Cultural Property, full-scale models of the brick walls of the building which is of timber-framed, brick construction were constructed on a vibration stage, and vibration experiments were conducted to obtain basic data for investigating the earthquake behavior and seismic capacity of the walls. As one of the experiments, wall displacements before and after vibration were measured through strains in optical fiber sensors installed on the wall, which were obtained by Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometer. Measured results corresponded qualitatively to observed changes in the state of the wall. These results show that applicability of the fiber optic strain sensing system to displacement measurement of the brick wall which experienced earthquake can be expected.
