Optimizing 3-mode fibers for Mode-division-multiplexing Transmission

Abstract(in English) Optimizations of 3-mode fibers have been investigated. Aeff of 150um2 for fundamental mode, high neff and low macro-bending loss for transmitting 3 modes, and neff less than silica cladding level for LP21 leaky mode, were successfully realized by optimizing the W-shaped profile. A sample fiber has been fabricated and the optical properties, which were obtained by simulations from an actual profile and the measurements using the shifting input method, agreed well with the designed values.
