Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been reported that additional scattering loss often arises in holey fibers, namely photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and hole-assisted fiber (HAF) due to the surface roughness of their air holes. This extrinsic loss tends to increase in proportion to wavelength^<-4> as well as intrinsic Rayleigh scattering. We report the scattering loss in PCFs with different structures measured by using bi-directional OTDR measurement, and loss characteristic of a PCF whose minimum loss is 0.18 dB/km at 1.55 μm.
