A Routing Method with Short and Long-Term Traffic Prediction Using Particle Filter

Abstract(in English) In optical WDM networks, large capacity data are transmitted with high speed. The network traffic has large and rapid changes per unit of time. In addition, the temporal or spatial locality of network traffic between each node becomes high. Therefore, a method that accurately estimates the state of the present traffic and predicts the state of future traffic becomes more important. In this paper, we propose a traffic prediction method that can deal with large changes in traffic in optical WDM networks, and a routing method by using this prediction method. The proposed prediction method is classified into two categories: "short-term traffic state estimation" and "long-term traffic trend prediction". Traffic is predicted by using these methods cooperatively and complementary. The proposed routing method sets light paths considering the prediction information and the holding time of connections. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method by computer simulations.
