Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined the relationship between cladding diameter and confinement loss with both numerically and experimentally. We show that the cladding diameter dependence of confinement loss of a step index fiber can be approximated by considering the mode field diameter and the normalized frequency values. The measured cladding diameter dependence of the transmission loss shows a similar tendency to the calculated results. We also investigate the influence of the micro-bending loss on a fiber with smaller cladding diameter.
