Abstract(in English) A 1.55-μm short pulse light source using a lithium niobate Mach-Zehnder (LN-MZ) optical modulator was investigated. To generate flat and broadband optical frequency combs, driving conditions of the LN-MZ modulator were theoretically analyzed, and a relation between the modulation depth and the pulse width was derived from computer simulations. An experiment for optical short pulse generation was demonstrated using a fabricated low-driving-voltage dual driving LN-MZ modulator, and a flat and broadband optical frequency comb with a 10-dB bandwidth of 320 GHz (corresponding to the modulation condition of 57π-4.5π) was obtained at the driving frequency of 10 GHz. By compensating the chirp of the optical frequency comb using a 1.3-μm single mode fiber, a 2.4-ps optical short pulse train was generated.
