Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For the accurate characterization of low noise amplifiers in the microwave frequency, a noise source using shot noise generated by a Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor (SIS) junction is developed. A Nb-Al/AlOx-Nb SIS junction with an area of 1×1μm^2 is fabricated on a quartz substrate and is mounted in a housing. Gain and noise temperature of a 4-8 GHz low noise amplifier with a cooled isolator is measured by this SIS noise source and compared with those measured by the conventional cold attenuator method. Although the noise temperature measured by the SIS noise source was systematically 1-2 K higher than that measured by the conventional method, it is shown that the difference of gain was within 0.5 dB and that the noise temperature can be measured with an higher accuracy than the conventional method.
