Abstract(in English) We have theoretically analyzed, based on an exact solution for Maxwell's equations, the electromagnetic field of an optical system consisting of two uniform dielectric regions of the same refractive index (n>1) separated by a flat and parallel gap of air/vacuum between them. There exist two input lights towards the gap and two output lights away from the gap. We have shown that when the incident angle changes from just under to above the critical angle and vice versa (case A), there exist a gap width d_1, which is larger than the wavelength, such that one of the output intensity changes from 0 to approximately the same intensty as the incident intensity. Moreover, we have also shown that when the incident angle changes under the critical angle (case B), there exists a gap width d_2, which is larger than d_1, such that the minimum output intensity is 0 and the maximam output intensity is larger than the maximum value in case A. Using such properties, we propose several new optical modulation schemes.
