Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In sound reproduction with accompanying picture, it is difficult to localize a sound on the image display when the size of display becomes large, because a loudspeaker cannot be set up on the display. The use of loudspeaker array is a solution to the problem. However, the loudspeaker array sometimes brings the deterioration of sound timbre if the phantom source is placed distant from the array, especially on the center of the large display. In this paper, the relationship between the shape of wave front and the timbre of sound reproduced by the loudspeaker array is described when the array is driven on the basis of Rayleigh I integral. A computer simulation showed that the frequency response of the observed signal had some spectral dips in the midrange frequency band, which were caused by various distances from a phantom source to a receiving point through loudspeakers of the array. By using "spatial window function", whose coefficients were decided by the locations of loudspeakers, such spectral dips could be alleviated while maintaining the shape of the wave front synthesized by the loudspeaker array.
