A control method of front back confusion for a hearing assistance system based on frequency domain binaural model

Abstract(in English) A binaural hearing assistance system using the frequency domain binaural model on horizontal coordinate has been proposed and it is implemented on a portable device with directional selectivity. However, this system has a front-back confusion. In order to solve this confusion, an estimation method of source direction on sagittal coordinate has proposed using artificial neural network(ANN). Using binaural signals, this method estimates the direction of source in quadrant of horizontal plane as the first step, then estimates it in whole sagittal coordinate. The results of simulation show that the average ratio of front-back confusion is less than 2 %. In this report, a new estimation method of sound source direction is proposed as a combination of a quadratic estimation method on sagittal coordinate using ANN and the frequency domain binaural model. Also in order to realize a hearing assistance system on a portable device, a reduction method of computation load is also discussed.
