Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper discusses an expectation for digital coherent optical communication technology, mainly from a telecom carrier's perspective. Recent traffic expansion in telecom networks which is mainly led by the penetration of the Internet and FTTH services creates new requirements for telecom networks like backward compatibility and Plug & Play functionality. Digital coherent optical communication is a promising technology to fulfill them. We report several R&D activities for advancing 100Gbit/s-class digital coherent technology, including 100Gbit/s PDM-QPSK WDM transmission experiment with offline signal processing in a field environment, prototyping of digital signal processor to achieve 100Gbit/s-class real-time optical transmission. A demonstration of fast automatic channel recovery by making use of the processor is also reported.
