Automatic Ship Identification in ISAR Image Analysis with Whitened Subspace Method

Abstract(in English) An automatic identification of ships in images produced by inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR), which identifies ships with their profiles was proposed. This method detects bow and stem of a ship in order to normalize the ship. Therefore, when the bow or the stern do not exist due to position of radar and a ship, it is difficult to identify ships by this method. We propose the new method that generates multiple pairs of bow and stem of a ship and identifies a ship with all these pairs. Furthermore, we improve identification accuracy of each candidate pair of bow and stem by applying Whitened Subspace Method to the proposed method. We demonstrate the effective performance of the proposed method through experiments using simulated ISAR images.
