Abstract(in English) New generation network services based on sensing and control of real world objects are expected to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life and to the realization of a sustainable society. As a basement of such services, the M2M (machine-to-machine) communication technologies are actively being researched and also standardized globally. This report describes major roles of the standardization activities of the M2M technologies, mainly focusing on the emerging home ICT market. After quick overview of the current trend in the global standardization, strategies for obtaining and maintaining competitive edge are addressed.
