Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For the purpose of rapid retrieval of impressive video scenes including emotional expressions of human beings, this paper proposes an efficient detection method of emotional expressions in video scenes. In the proposed method, a large number of facial features are defined using several facial feature points around principal facial components such as eyes and a mouth, based on the positional relationship of facial feature points and the intensity values of image pixels around them. By evaluating the usefulness of the facial features, an efficient facial expression recognition model is constructed using a small number of useful facial features based on machine learning. The experimental result shows that the recognition model enables us to perform efficient video scene detection taking into account the tradeoff between detection accuracy and detection speed.
