Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have been studying a macrodiversity system that can receive Hi-Vision (HDTV) videos across wide area without outage in mobile relay broadcasts such as road races. We have been trying to make a prototype receiver equipped with circuits to figure out the minimum mean square error (MMSE) weight that operates as the maximum ratio combining (MRC) in the OFDM system, which provides reliable wireless transmission, and as the spatial filtering in the MIMO-OFDM system, which enhances the bit rate. This report describes several channel models to evaluate the fixed-point MMSE weight calculation, and investigated optimum word lengths in intermediate calculations by computer simulation. As a result, the optimum word lengths of the inverse matrix calculator in the OFDM system were confirmed to be different from the ones in the MIMO-OFDM system. Furthermore, the optimum word lengths in the MIMO-OFDM system were also confirmed to increase particulary in a highly spatially correlated channel.
