Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we develop an algorithm for the computation of the median shape of a collection of 2D organ images. The 2D organ image is the boundary curve of a 2D sliced organ of volumetric CT image. We approximate organ shape as a simple polygonal curve using two types of shape descriptors, phase and turning functions of boundary contour. These shape descriptors allow us to achieve linear invariant shape matching. Shape matching derives a distance matrix for the collection of the boundary contours of 2D organs. Using this distance matrix, we define the median of shapes. Furthermore, we show that using hierarchical clustering method to our matching measure, we can discriminate abnormal shapes in the collection of 2D organs. This pattern rejection property of the algorithm leads to the conclusion that we can use our method as a support system for comparative image interpretation.
